Mormonism

I find it fascinating that so many comments are made with such hatred. What has Mitt Romney done to any of you here? What has Mormonism done to hurt anyone here? To think in a modern age where segregation is now something in the distant past, that we would be seeing such bigotry and hatred is truly devastating. I realize that many are ignorant regarding the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and its doctrines and teachings. I am not going to preach to you today, but I want to clarify a few misconceptions that are obvious. As a member of this church and someone who wears the supposed "magic underwear," I can tell you that we do not believe they are magic. We do hold them sacred, due to their symbolic value as reminders of covenants we make with God. I will not go into detail, but basically we covenant to obey God's commandments. Real Spooky isn't it. The basic message of our Church is contained in the name of the Church. We believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior and Redeemer. We believe that the truths he taught were distorted over time through the alterations to suit the desires of men. These alterations led to reformation. Due to the great work by reformers like Luther, Calvin, Wycliffe, and others. These reformers led to new churches being formed and new thought on religion being brought forth. These new thinkers inspired a boy who was curious about religion named Joseph Smith. Joseph would pray after contemplating which church to join. He felt closest to the teachings of the Methodist, but was not sure. His family was divided in the faith they practiced. Therefore, he went into a grove of trees and prayed. He received a witness of which church to join. The witness was that he should not join any of them. He was commanded to prepare to restore the Church of Christ on the Earth again as it was originally set up. For more information, I suggest you go to the horses mouth at www.mormon.org. this will give you a complete listing of our beliefs. I do not ask people join our church, but to simply respect that we have the right to believe in what we believe and to not be persecuted because of our beliefs. There have been changes over the years to our faith. I would point out that this is true of most religions. Catholics have had several changes over their extensive history. The Episcopalian Church has seen modern changes. Like the Catholics, we believe these changes to be the will of God. Please believe as you wish, as for me and my faith I would ask you to respect my decision to live according to its dictates and the dictates of my conscious.
